The historic Route 66 is the first highway to run from Chicago Illinois to LA California. Established in 1926, it has been maintained by a passionate community of Route 66 enthusiasts. Driving along this remarkable highway truly feels like driving through time. Many parts of the original highway can still be driven on, while other parts can be followed by the new highway alongside it.
The highway runs through 9 states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California with a length of 2,448 miles (3,940 km). There are many Route 66 stops along the way including eclectic museums, old-school diners, original gas stations and more. There are whole towns devoted to the memory of Route 66 and the life, industries and communities it created.
Food is a huge part of any road trip, and Route 66 is no exception! If you are a vegan, health nut or just a curious foodio then this is the blog for you. My partner and I drove the entire route eating at the best vegan spots throughout our journey. We detoured here and there, and did an extended trip along the West Coast…visiting many more vegan foodie spots visited too!
We are excited to share our vegan Route 66 journey with you and hope you enjoy this extraordinary, tasty, plant-based culinary experience!
